Maywood Park District provides a youth athletic and recreational program based in Maywood, Illinois. Our main goal is to organize, promote, and encourage sportsmanship by offering the Maywood Buccaneers, as a youthful recreational athletic program that involves: Pop Warner Youth Football, Illinois Youth Baseball District 10, Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation, a Traveling Basketball team and Cheer league.

How We Started

The BUCS began as a men's flag football team, but transformed into a youth football league in 1987 by organizers Frank Mahorn and Charles Flowers.The first year, the organization consisted of only one team which sported orange and white uniforms. In 1988, the Maywood Park District brought additional team levels and the inclusion of coaches:Ed "Speed" Alexander, Claude "Sully" Sullivan, Berry Sankey, Al "Buster" Saffold, and Stan Chandler. The acronym BUCS, "Because You Can Succeed", was created in order to signify and inspire the rewards of hard work and dedication.

Parks and recreation are an essential part of a healthy community. The Maywood community has wisely invested in an excellent park system which begun in 1920, still functioning today, and looking to prosper beyond.

The Maywood Park District helps people to enjoy life by providing an excellent park and recreation system that contributes to the health, wellness, and entertainment of its citizens.

Continuing Success

In 1992, the BUCS organization joined Maywood Park District. Through the years, the team colors were changed to blue and orange. Because of the dedication of our players, cheerleaders, parents, coaches, and support staff, the Maywood BUCS continues to flourish and acts as a feeder program for the Proviso East Football program. Notable alumni: Former NFL Players Richard Buchanan,Raymond Buchanan and Sergio Brown.
